About My Therapy Practice
Life offers us many opportunities to experience change, whether from loss, trauma, birth, union, separation, illness, work transitions, or relocation. Often, discomfort, even suffering, is inherent in these situations, as the fabric of life as we know it is torn, and our sense of identity wavers. But such moments may also provide the best opportunity to arrive at the heart of the matter, to discover our core strengths and resources, and deepen into the meaning of our lives. With the support we need, we can overcome obstacles to engage in many aspects of our lives in a more rewarding way.
I am willing to accompany you on this journey. In the therapeutic process, I will draw from my professional training, practice wisdom, and life experience to offer the expertise and support you may need.
As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP), I have benefited from a rigorous professional education and training in all aspects of mental health and trauma. The social work orientation places the client (rather than “the problem”) at the center of the therapeutic process and emphasizes a collaborative approach. We will address your needs as you see them, in the ways that you think will work best for you. Additionally, my training in Trauma, Mindfulness and neuroscience-based modalities such as EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, and dance-movement therapy, provide me with knowledge and practice in how the mind and body are integrally related. Our primary medium of working together will be conversations, but we will pay close attention to the body and its sensations and expressions as an essential part of our dialogue. This holistic perspective enriches our inquiry into the challenges you face, and broadens our exploration of the possibilities for healing and transformation.
I also believe that the therapeutic process is greater than the sum of its parts. It is possible for two people or a group working together with positive intention within safe boundaries to tap into a profound energy and wisdom.
My life experiences in a variety of cultures around the world, and in many roles life has to offer, have contributed to my sense of compassion and faith in the project of being human. I look forward to the potential of sharing that project with you.

To Make An Initial Appointment:
If you are interested in scheduling an initial appointment, please email me at [email protected] or leave me a voicemail at 434-806-8516. I will call you back as soon as possible to set up an appointment, and email you some information and forms in advance. Our first appointment is an opportunity for you to explore what you are seeking in therapy and if you are comfortable working with me, and for me to get an idea of your goals in therapy and if I am the best person to help you reach them.
Confidentiality:
I am ethically bound and personally committed to protect your privacy, and will not divulge any information about you to any Third Party without your prior, written authorization. There are certain ethical and legal limitations to confidentiality, to protect the safety of clients and vulnerable people. Before our first appointment, I will provide you with detailed written information about Confidentiality and its limits and we will discuss it in our first session.
Communication:
The best and fastest way to reach me is by calling or texting 434-806-8516. Due to the nature of my work and schedule, I may not receive or respond to your message right away, but I generally return calls and texts the same day, except over weekends. Clients may also email me about scheduling issues, and I will try to respond within 48 hours. Due to the lack of secure confidentiality over text and email, I do not correspond with potential or current clients about therapeutic issues by text or email.
Schedule, Length, and Cancellation of Appointments:
If we decide to work together, initially we will set up a weekly time to meet. If an appointment is cancelled with less than 48 hours notice, the client will be charged the full session fee. The regular in-person session is 50-minutes. For certain needs or modalities, such as EMDR or sessions with family members, we may agree in advance to schedule an extended session of 70 minutes.
Insurance, Billing and Fees:
If you schedule an initial appointment, I will send you detailed information and a form to fill out regarding Insurance, Billing, and Fees and we will discuss these topics at the time of our first meeting. What follows is a summary.
My fee for a regular 50-minute session is $135. If we extend a session to 70 minutes (typically for EMDR), the fee is $170. I collect session fees or co-pays at the time of each appointment.
I am an In-Network Provider for most Anthem, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Aetna (including UVA's), and Sentara insurance policies. If you want to use your insurance for which I am an In-Network Provider, I will accept the insurance discounted rate and submit the claims to your insurance, and you will only pay me the insurance co-pay once you meet your deductible. Additionally, you may also be subject to other fees not covered by your insurance, such as for an extended session ($34), professional services outside of therapy, or for credit card payment ($3 fee per transaction).
