Policies and Fees
To Make An Initial Appointment:
If you are interested in scheduling an initial appointment, please email me at julieconvisser@gmail.com or leave me a voicemail at 434-806-8516. I will call you back as soon as possible to set up an appointment, and email you some information and forms in advance. Our first appointment is an opportunity for you to explore what you are seeking in therapy and if you are comfortable working with me, and for me to get an idea of your goals in therapy and if I am the best person to help you reach them.
Confidentiality:
I am ethically bound and personally committed to protect your privacy, and will not divulge any information about you to any Third Party without your prior, written authorization. There are certain ethical and legal limitations to confidentiality, to protect the safety of clients and vulnerable people. Before our first appointment, I will provide you with detailed written information about Confidentiality and its limits and we will discuss it in our first session.
Communication:
The best and fastest way to reach me is by calling or texting 434-806-8516. Due to the nature of my work and schedule, I may not receive or respond to your message right away, but I generally return calls and texts the same day, except over weekends. Current clients may also email me about scheduling issues, and I will try to respond within 48 hours. Due to the lack of secure confidentiality over text and email, I do not correspond with potential or current clients about therapeutic issues by text or email.
Schedule, Length, and Cancellation of Appointments:
If we decide to work together, initially we will set up a weekly time to meet. At later points in therapy we may decide to meet every other week, or even monthly. If either of us needs to cancel or reschedule a scheduled appointment, we will let the other know as soon as possible. If an appointment is cancelled with less than 48 hours notice, the client will be charged the full session fee. The regular in-person session is 50-minutes. For certain needs or modalities, such as EMDR or sessions with family members, we may agree in advance to schedule an extended session of 70 minutes.
Insurance, Billing and Fees:
If you schedule an initial appointment, I will send you detailed information and a form to fill out regarding Insurance, Billing, and Fees and we will discuss these topics at the time of our first meeting. What follows is a summary.
My fee for a regular 50-minute session is $135. If we extend a session to 70 minutes (typically for EMDR), the fee is $170. I collect session fees or co-pays at the time of each appointment. For group training design and facilitation my rate is $150 per hour, which applies to time facilitating as well as time spent on prep and follow up.
I am an In-Network Provider for most Anthem, Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Aetna (including UVA's), and Optima insurance policies. If you want to use your insurance for which I am an In-Network Provider, I will accept the insurance discounted rate and submit the claims to your insurance, and you will only pay me the insurance co-pay once you meet your deductible. Additionally, you may also be subject to other fees not covered by your insurance, such as for an extended session ($34), professional services outside of therapy, or for credit card payment ($3 fee per transaction).
Some health insurance policies reimburse clients receiving services from Out of Network Providers. If you have insurance for which I am Out of Network (e.g. UBH, Cigna, etc) and your policy provides Out of Network benefits, upon request I can provide you periodic Statements that you may submit directly to your insurance to claim any reimbursement due to you. I also work with the Virginia Victim's Fund (VVF) for victims of a reported crime.
In Case of Mental Health Emergency:
If you or someone you know is in immediate danger due to a mental health condition, call the National Help Life-Line at 988; the Region Ten Crisis Line at 434-972-1800 in Charlottesville; or proceed to the nearest hospital Emergency Room and ask for a psychiatric consult.
